Request Statuses

Here is a list of all the license request statuses returned by the Easy Song Licensing API. These are the same statuses we use every day to manage hundreds of thousands of cover song license requests.

List of all request statuses

"Status", "Description", "CanLicenseCurrently", and "CanLicenseEver" are returned in the response when you check a request status. You can compare the "Status" against this list for more information. "Progress" and "CanEdit" provide additional insight. They are not returned in the response. A detailed description of each column heading is provided below.

Special case - Note that the "CanLicenseEver" value for status "Need Info" is False. This is a special case. Actually, it is possible the request could be licensed in the future if additional information is provided. For simplicity, the boolean value of False is used instead of accommodating what would probably be a more accurate designation, "Maybe".

Good to know - Although requests with a "CanLicenseEver" value of False cannot be cleared through the API, we CAN clear these through our Custom Licensing services. Your referrals for Custom Licensing via links and notices are appreciated.

Each column explained

Not sure what we mean by "Progress" or "Can Edit Track, Album, Release"? Check out our explanation of each column heading:

ID

This is the ID we use in our database to uniquely identify the request status. You do not need to use this. We list it here only for reference should it come up during troubleshooting.

Status

This is the unique "Status" returned in the response when you check a request status. You can check the "Status" from the response against this list to learn more about it.

Description

This is a brief description that explains the status in greater detail. Feel free to use this to provide a more thorough explanation to your employees and/or users. Or, write your own description if you wish. If you do write your own descriptions, make sure to keep them current and accurate.

Can License Currently

This shows the "CanLicenseCurrently" value returned in the response when you check a request status. It indicates whether it is currently appropriate for the licensee to make payment to clear the license request. Click here for more information.

Can License Ever

This shows the "CanLicenseEver" value returned in the response when you check a request status. It tells you whether you will ever be able to clear the request using our API cover song licensing service. Click here for more information.

Can Edit Track, Album, Release

Note, this value is not returned in the response or otherwise exposed through the API. Instead, it can trigger error messages that are displayed when you try to update a request on a sensitive resource. If any license request on a resource has a "CanEdit" value of False, editing that resource will not be allowed. For example:

Album - The album data cannot be edited if any request on the album has a "CanEdit" value of False.
Release - The release data cannot be edited if any request on the release has a "CanEdit" value of False.
Track - The track data cannot be edited if any request on the track has a "CanEdit" value of False.

In effect, this protects resources from updates once licensing has begun.
